Starting with the first high profile call-centre based car insurance business in 1985, Direct Line grew rapidly in their early years to become a major force in insurance.
Now owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland, Direct Line cover the whole insurance sector and the little red telephone has even branched out into loans and mortgages now.
The company still operates it's direct model, with five large call centres across the UK, but the internet has now become a major channel for the insurer. Direct Line now also operates in europe too.
